Why I Wrote This Book
It started with a quiet ache. It was the kind of ache that settles into your chest when someone you love drifts out of reach. I missed my grandchildren. I missed being part of their lives. And I didn’t know if I ever would be again.
But grief doesn’t always have to end in sorrow. Sometimes, if you let it, it can lead to something else.
Your Nana Loves You! began as a quiet act of hope—written for the grandchildren I can’t see, but will always carry in my heart. I didn’t write this story to explain the absence or reopen wounds. I wrote it to express something simple and enduring: love—without conditions, without blame, and without end.
I didn’t just write this book. I created it—word by word, image by image—as a way to move from heartbreak to healing. I couldn’t change the circumstances, but I could choose how to respond. This book is my way of choosing love.
I believe stories have the power to reach across distance. My hope is that this one brings comfort, not just to my own grandchildren, but to any child missing someone they love; and to any grandparent searching for a way to say, “I’m still here. And I still love you.”
Maybe one day my grandchildren will read it and feel how deeply they were loved—not just then, but always. But even if they never do, I hope this book finds its way to other little hands and hearts who need to be reminded: love can still show up.
If you’re a grandparent walking a similar path, here’s what I’ve learned: Be kind to yourself. Focus on what you can do—even if it’s just writing a letter you never send or telling your story in your own way. My two granddaughters age 3 and 5 loved me reading the book to them. The 5 year old said she loved the story. The 3 year old who is my bookworm wanted to know why Nana had tears. Overall I definitely recommend this book to all the “ Nana’s” out there whether you are near or far from your Grandchildren. You won’t be disappointed with this sweet book.
